Specimen Requirements

1. Have patient void and then have him/her drink 4 glasses of water. Wait 1 hour.
2. Have patient void in plastic urine container.
3. Specimen should be brought immediately without fixative to Cytology Laboratory. Specimen can also be sent refrigerated or be added to CytoLyt® solution and transported.
Note:  1. Label container with patient’s name, date of collection, physician’s name, and hospital identification number (if applicable).
2. Please complete a “Surgical, Cytology, and Microbiology Request Form” including patient’s name, date of birth, date of collection, physician’s name, hospital identification number (in- or outpatient) or address, specimen source, and pertinent clinical history, and forward it with specimen.
