Specimen Requirements

2 Specimen types are required for this test.

 

Blood for Calcium, Ionized

Preferred:
Container/Tube: Dark Green Top (Sodium Heparin) tube
Minimum Volume: 2.0ml 
Collection Instructions: DO NOT centrifuge. Stable 8 Hours at room temperature.

 

Plasma for Carbon Dioxide, Chloride, Creatinine, Glucose, Potassium, Sodium, and BUN

Preferred:
Container/Tube: Green cap-yellow ring Top (Lithium Heparin Gel) tube
Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL 
Collection Instructions: Centrifuge within 2 hours
Also Acceptable:
Container/Tube: Plain, Red Top or Serum gel (SST-Gel) tube

Refrigerate: 48 hours
Frozen: aliquot for longer storage
