Specimen Requirements
Preferred:
Container/Tube: Green cap-yellow ring Top (Lithium Heparin Gel) tube
Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL
Collection Instructions: Centrifuge within 2 hours.
1. Draw a baseline cortisol before the Cortrosyn® is administered.
2. 0.25 mg or 25 units of Cortrosyn® (cosyntropin) is given either intravenously or intramuscularly.
3. Draw cortisol levels at 30 and 60 minutes after administration of drug.
Note: 1. Nursing floor is responsible for obtaining drug from pharmacy. Nursing floor must call main laboratory at extension 5058 to coordinate time of venipunctures.

Container/Tube: Plain, Red Top or Serum gel (SST-Gel) tube
