Specimen Requirements

Preferred:
Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Minimum Volume: ?
Collection Instructions:

1. If possible, submit first 30 mL of “dirty urine” from first-morning void in urine container supplied. Do not overfill container. A urine specimen other than first-morning void may be used if collection time is >1 hour from last void. (Clean-catch specimen is not acceptable.)
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth or medical record number, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
3. Send specimen refrigerated.
Note:  1. Specimen source is required. 2. Spermicidal agents and feminine powder sprays interfere with assay and should not be used prior to collection.

Negative (reported as Positive, Negative, Inhibitory, or Inconclusive)
Identification of Chlamydia trachomatis DNA indicates infection with that organism.

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 24 hours (female), 3 days (Male)
Refrigerate: 8 days

Once in transport reagent: 45 days refrigerated
