Important Note

Specimens received which are visibly bloody will be rejected with the comment: "Visible blood present in specimen. Occult blood test not indicated."

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Minimum Volume: 0.5ml 
Collection Instructions: Collect specimen in bedpan, clean cup or similar container and transfer to capped container. Avoid samples coming in contact with toilet bow water to avoid contamination. 

 

A specimen should NOT be collected from a patient with the following conditions:

1. Menstrual bleeding

2. Bleeding hemorrhoids

3. Constipation bleeding

4. Urinary bleeding
