Specimen Requirements
EDTA blood, K2 EDTA blood, and serum are required for this test.
Blood for ABO/Rh Type and Antibody Screen
Preferred:
Container/Tube: Pink (K2 EDTA) Top tube
Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL
Collection Instructions: Label specimen in black or blue ink (not gel) with patient’s full name, medical record number, date and time of draw, and initials of phlebotomist.
Also Acceptable:
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) tube
Blood for CBC with Differential
Preferred:
Container/Tube: Lavender Top (EDTA) tube
Minimum Volume: 3ml
Also Acceptable:
Container/Tube: Lavender-top (EDTA) MICROTAINER(S)®
Minimum Volume: 0.25ml
Serum for HBsAg, Syphilis Antibody (Reflex RPR), and Rubella Antibody, IgG
Preferred:
Container/Tube: Serum gel (SST-Gel) tube
Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL
Also Acceptable:
Container/Tube: Plain, Red Top
