Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: ROM Plus® collection swab
Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL 

Collection Instructions:

1. Prepare patient for vaginal exam.

2. Collect sample of vaginal discharge using sterile vaginal swab in kit.

a. Remove swab from packaging using care not to touch anything prior to insertion into        vagina.

b. Collect sample from surface of vagina, holding swab in the middle of the stick while patient is lying flat on back.

c. Carefully insert the polyester tip of the swab into the vagina until fingers contact the skin no more than 2-3 inches deep.

d. Withdraw the swab after a minimum of 15 seconds.

3. Mix swab in solvent vial for 15 seconds.

4. Break of swab tip at second score mark and leave tip in the vial.

5. Place shipping cap on buffer vial and dispose of the remaining swab stick.
