Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Sterile capped syringe
Collection Instructions: 

1. Specimen should be obtained by using a needle and syringe from a source not normally colonized by anaerobes. Use pre-reduced anaerobic system (PRAS) for transport. (Swab is not desirable.)
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth or medical record number, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
3. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note:  Specimen source is required.
